Pet license requirements and ordinances
Pet licenses are required in all areas of Larimer County. Depending on where you live and the type of animals you have, you may need to renew your license annually.
Fort Collins
- All cats and dogs four months and older must be licensed annually.
- Spayed or neutered: $15 per year
- Intact (not spayed or neutered): $50 per year
- Animals under one year of age: $15
- Senior citizen discount: If you are a senior age 62 and older and income qualified for City of Fort Collins services, please call 970-416-2350, as you are eligible for a license for each pet at no charge*. You must renew on an annual basis. The license fee will be paid by the City of Fort Collins. *If over 1 year of age, animal must be spayed/neutered to qualify for the discount.
- Goats must be licensed annually.
- Annual fee is $25. You must apply before acquiring goats.
- A one-time fee of $30 provides the required license for chicken and duck coops; license applies to all chickens and ducks within the coop.
- All goat, chicken, and duck enclosures must be inspected by Animal Protection & Control prior to licensing.

Loveland
- All cats and dogs four months and older must be licensed annually.
- Spayed or neutered: $15 per year
- Intact (not spayed or neutered): $50 per year
- Senior citizen discount: If you are a senior age 62 and older and reside within Loveland city limits, you are eligible for a license for each pet at no charge*. To qualify for this license, please apply in person at 3501 E 71st Street, Loveland, CO, 80538, or mail us proof of your residence and date of birth. *Animals 1 year and older must be spayed/neutered to qualify for the discount.

Unincorporated Larimer County
- Dogs four months and older must be licensed annually.
- Spayed or neutered: $15 per year
- Intact (not spayed or neutered): $50 per year
- Senior citizen discount: $15 (Animals 1 year and older must be spayed/neutered to qualify for the discount.)
- We encourage the licensing of all cats for their safety.
- Optional cat license: $5 per year
- Read Larimer County Land Use Code regarding pet licenses.
Wellington, Berthoud and Estes Park
- In Wellington all cats and dogs four months and older must be licensed annually.
- Spayed or neutered: $15 per year
- Intact (not spayed or neutered): $50 per year
- Senior citizen discount: $15
- The towns of Berthoud and Estes Park have their own licensing program. Please contact Berthoud Town Hall at 970.532.2643 or Estes Park Police Department at 970.586.4000 for more information.
LICENSE TAGS
Your cat or dog must wear the silver, round license tag and rabies tag at all times. If you lose your pet’s current license tag you can purchase a new one for $2.50. Request a new tag.
